Tales of Flight

Storytavern Tales

Every now and then
Along comes Super Ben

He is truly a lovely guy
Except when he starts to cry

Best at drinking the brew
Thinking all his stories are new

Tiring people with talk
of how he can fly like a hawk

Most people laughed and mocked
But Ben just knew he rocked

Finally one day came Will
And together they went up the hill

Strapping Ben up tight
With wings ready for flight

They shook, nodded and smiled
His fear was extremely mild

Ben was a natural flyer he knew
His tales with proof told it was true

He ran down the hill
And felt a slow growing thrill

Now the people would learn
How he rubber could burn

Off he went
Almost god sent

Up in the air
And people shouted "There!"

He flew over the lot
Suddenly he heard a shot

The bullet whistled past
He thought, this will never last

Immelmanning up hard
He tried to use it as a ward

The next one took his knee
And he fell down into a tree

A flock of birds flew away
Their home stolen for the day

The hunter ran in under
To shoot poor Ben asunder

Now people got really mad
Thinking Ben was kind of rad

They ran up and said "Boo!"
Will helped out in the coup

Hunter scared and shaken
Got his rifle from him taken

Ben got picked up by them all
Knee aside, he had a ball

Cheering him all the way to town
Even though he was in a gown

The hunter was jailed
He cried, sobbed and wailed.

Ben was dubbed a knight
And was always believed at night

When still he told his tales
Of heroism that went on rails

His only loss was a knee
He thought it a small fee

For now living a life so grand
Throughout all times' hand

Now I know you think I forgot
About Will and of his lot

He met a wife so fine
When he was out to dine

Ben was left without,
Always flying about

Glistening waves

Storytavern Glistening

The leaves were falling down in the autumn park. The old sailboat sailed in between them.
For a long time the crew had been travelling and they were tired and looked for the edge of the ocean.

This far above ground the leaves were hard to avoid, as the time from when they started to fall to when they potentially would hit the boat was but a few seconds. The captain grumbled angrily under his brown beard and silently swore a few curses about lazy trees not holding on to what was theirs.

After a while they were out from under the tall giant trees of green and swerved over and down into a desolate valley with high snow covered mountain ranges on both sides. The wind picked up and started to pull on the small mouse's clothes where he stood at the bow of the ship. She pulled them close and shivered slightly.

Suddenly from up higher in one of the masts came a call:
"Ocean, Ocean I say! Wake up sea lovers, Ocean ahead!"

The deck was suddenly alive with bustle and hustle,  in just a moment the deck was filled from below with characters of all sorts.
Large elephants standing on two legs in suit and tie, snakes in socks,
crickets and crocodiles, deer in shorts and antelopes wearing crowns. All were in their proper attire.

When the deck was almost filled to the brim and the last few remaining had come up, the mountains made way on each side and the ocean spread out glistening before them. A gentle sigh of awe and light chatter of excitement went through the scene. It had been a long time coming.

As the skiff neared the blue sparkling edge with a brief headwind coming in, it dove at sharp angle silently with a firm hand. Slowly they neared the alluring surface, smiling at each other and talking excitedly.

There was no sound as they broke through the water. The vessel seemed to not react to the change. It continued to glide down through the depths with old familiarity. The deck was alive with cheers. There were hugs and pats on the back. They were back in their element they were home.

The little mouse standing alone at the bow looked up at the surface of the bubble around the ship that had appeared when they broke through the water. She smiled with a tear in her eye and said to herself that she was never going to leave again.

Deeper and deeper the vessel went back to where they came from, back to what was home.

The little mouse touched his hat, nodded amiably to the light above and then slowly moved over to the others and joined in the festivities and celebration.

Frustration

Storytavern Frustration

He went through a phase
and fell on his face
The level of pain
wasn't as much as he'd hoped to gain

He thought he'd do it proper
so he leaped off a chopper
When he landed with a splat
and noticed he forgot his hat

Therefor he went back to get it
from a place that wasn't too well lit
He stumbled and fell hard
into a tub of lard

The feeling was kinda nice
but he was stuck like in a vice.
He tried to think slim
wished he hadn't gone to the gym

No matter how hard he tried
wiggled, jumped and pried
he just could not brake free
truly as stuck as he could be

He shouted aloud
and in came a crowd
They cheered him on with joy
and pour him all over with soy

"Pull me out you idiots!" he cried
The crowd got scared and ran to hide.
Just one kid remained
sadly he was harebrained

The kid gave him a smile
and told a tale longer than a mile
He looked at the kid in shock
it really needed a doc

Angrily he scared the kid away
it's still running until this day
Noone cared for the man after that
He's still stuck there like a twat

Lost at Sea

Lost at Sea

Far and wide
He tried to hide

He loved his dog
but was stuck in a bog

The ice cream did not
and he lost a lot

Nobody laughed
almost daft

He took his crow
and went in tow

Flexed his pec
entered the deck

Sailed away
Felt his way

Lost at sea
with no idea

Guided by stars
still behind bars

Went aground
pound for pound

They found him there
gave him care

It was too late
he was gone to hate

Rampage abound
there was no sound

None was left
He was fully bereft

Times were new
Down was his brew

Glimmer and Fate

Glimmer and Fate

When lights are low
and the streets are dough
The song is heard from every bird

I left the herd
and broke the bird
Never thought I would be the one to be third

Find a glimmer
Find a fate
Nothing that matters is ever too late

Bark at the moon
Howl at the scene

Be a monster
but use your strength on the mean

The Product

The Product

I barked at the moon
and the car finally passed
I never felt so harassed

I puked in my shoe
it was all I could do
no time to find a proper lo

Chased after for revenge
but lost my way pretty soon
Had to swerve to save a Maine coon

Shouting and cursing at the cat
It looked me with disgust where I sat
Assessing to eat me and become rather fat

I turned back in fear
It looked like a bear
Felt like a chump
But I didn't care

Soon the smell of my shoe
And all of that goo
Overwhelmed me like a flood
Stopped at a park in the hood

Tried to clean it out
when I heard a scary shout
A group of thugs
Came over and gave me hugs

"What's that stink?"
My heart started to sink
I showed them my shoe
it now looked like glue

"That's hallucinative sh*t,
you give me a hit!"
I looked at him confused
but didn't want to get abused

Gave him a bite
he got high as a kite
The others went along
the product was really strong

A second later they slept
the money they had I kept
Went out of my way
to keep them as they lay

Got into my ride
I had saved my hide
only one shoe on
still felt like I won

Went back into town
and jumped onto my bed of down
I was sick of it all
Still I had kind of a ball

I was done with this day
sleep could please take me away
Got lost in another dream
It was the same scheme

I barked at the moon

True Cow

True Cow

I used to be true
But the cow said moo

Scared me stiff
Started wondering if

True was too nice
Better to have a vice

Went underground
Searched for my sound

Entered a gang
Cut myself a bang

Shoplifted and stole
Only ate bananas from Dole

Got promoted to chief
Turned a new leaf

Abused everyone
With good words and fun

It changed the world
But noone of it heard

Wrote a book
Noone gave it a look

Happy still am I
Dont really know why

Forgive me I lie
I almost always cry

After a while
We bought an isle

Moved the business there
Maybe it was the fresher air

Booming and hot
A volcano entered the plot

Crime was not easily done
When mostly you had to run

Lava is no joke
We were almost broke

Invested in stock
And started to rock

Charts pointed up
We filled our cup

Gave some to the poor
Never knowing what for

Filled purses of the lazy
We must have been crazy

Bought another isle
They were separated by a mile

The bridge was costly as hell
I still on it dwell

It was finished for a min
Then the mountain started to grin

The flow went so fast
We did not last

Our bridge went with us
Down the drain with a cus

Why do I this tell?
I want my book to sell

Ratings' been great
Since we met our fate

Im off on a date
Girls are beautiful of late

Maybe I shouldve been true
I hope there is someone I can sue

I regret the result
Of our fun healthy cult

Though I'm happy I tried
Not solely prioritizing my hide

Freeway Run

Storytavern Freeway

When love came to town there was nothing to do.
Randomly perplexed she left the room and fell down the stairs.
She was used to the pain and instantly popped up on her feet with acrobatic grace.

Turning to the coffee pot she filled it and put it on the stove.
Went out got the paper and read through the news.
Nothing of interest, except an article about a man who was late.
She knew it was him from the words quoted therein.

The coffee went down with terrible haste.
The paper it flew as she ran out the door.
Onto the street screaming as if she was on fire.
Neighbours they cheered and threw flowers at her feet.
They had never seen such a woman, so beautiful and sweet.

Shop owners closed their shops to watch the commotion.
They spoke with each other and compared their emotion.
A bet was made and all lost their hair,
for this time they had nothing to which they could compare.

Dashing down the freeway she passed a lorry of sorts.
It honked at her happy and moved out of the way.
Everyone was with her on this day.

Braking like mad she avoided the sea and popped into Starbucks for some tea.
A child came up running and ask for an autograph.
She gave it with a smile, but stole the pen.
The kid started crying and called for his dad.
He wasn't aware she had gone in a flash,
his dad stood there wondering what had happened to his lad.

Tilting round the corner to the parliament and park
she hopped over a police car in a tidy wide arc.
The police called the feds who were investigating a bun,
drinking some java and staring at the sun.
Everyone was called and the chase was on,
through streets of mercy and subway below.
She raced up the next station and broke the barrier of sound.
Kissed a Bugatti and hugged a barking hound.

When finally she came upon the meadow and field,
she sat down just next to him and dropped her shield.

"I brought some friends, I hope you don't mind?
They will be here shortly, I'm just trying to be kind."

"My lady, with you times are merry and I love what you do.
But this time its not funny, why did you bring the whole zoo?"

"Its a present to show how much you mean to me,
should I just have brought a book or a tree?
Wait til they come and my logic you will see."

The feds and the lot came over in trot,
sat down and joined in and what not.
Singing and dancing all had a blast,
It was like the times, long lost in the past.

Later in the evening when the feast had stilled down, he hugged her closely and admitted defeat.
"You are the one to make me fill out a spreadsheet."

And so it was when the world of the past
came into the present and the future twirled at last.

Mike and Me
