Glistening waves

Storytavern Glistening

The leaves were falling down in the autumn park. The old sailboat sailed in between them.
For a long time the crew had been travelling and they were tired and looked for the edge of the ocean.

This far above ground the leaves were hard to avoid, as the time from when they started to fall to when they potentially would hit the boat was but a few seconds. The captain grumbled angrily under his brown beard and silently swore a few curses about lazy trees not holding on to what was theirs.

After a while they were out from under the tall giant trees of green and swerved over and down into a desolate valley with high snow covered mountain ranges on both sides. The wind picked up and started to pull on the small mouse's clothes where he stood at the bow of the ship. She pulled them close and shivered slightly.

Suddenly from up higher in one of the masts came a call:
"Ocean, Ocean I say! Wake up sea lovers, Ocean ahead!"

The deck was suddenly alive with bustle and hustle,  in just a moment the deck was filled from below with characters of all sorts.
Large elephants standing on two legs in suit and tie, snakes in socks,
crickets and crocodiles, deer in shorts and antelopes wearing crowns. All were in their proper attire.

When the deck was almost filled to the brim and the last few remaining had come up, the mountains made way on each side and the ocean spread out glistening before them. A gentle sigh of awe and light chatter of excitement went through the scene. It had been a long time coming.

As the skiff neared the blue sparkling edge with a brief headwind coming in, it dove at sharp angle silently with a firm hand. Slowly they neared the alluring surface, smiling at each other and talking excitedly.

There was no sound as they broke through the water. The vessel seemed to not react to the change. It continued to glide down through the depths with old familiarity. The deck was alive with cheers. There were hugs and pats on the back. They were back in their element they were home.

The little mouse standing alone at the bow looked up at the surface of the bubble around the ship that had appeared when they broke through the water. She smiled with a tear in her eye and said to herself that she was never going to leave again.

Deeper and deeper the vessel went back to where they came from, back to what was home.

The little mouse touched his hat, nodded amiably to the light above and then slowly moved over to the others and joined in the festivities and celebration.

Frustration

Storytavern Frustration

He went through a phase
and fell on his face
The level of pain
wasn't as much as he'd hoped to gain

He thought he'd do it proper
so he leaped off a chopper
When he landed with a splat
and noticed he forgot his hat

Therefor he went back to get it
from a place that wasn't too well lit
He stumbled and fell hard
into a tub of lard

The feeling was kinda nice
but he was stuck like in a vice.
He tried to think slim
wished he hadn't gone to the gym

No matter how hard he tried
wiggled, jumped and pried
he just could not brake free
truly as stuck as he could be

He shouted aloud
and in came a crowd
They cheered him on with joy
and pour him all over with soy

"Pull me out you idiots!" he cried
The crowd got scared and ran to hide.
Just one kid remained
sadly he was harebrained

The kid gave him a smile
and told a tale longer than a mile
He looked at the kid in shock
it really needed a doc

Angrily he scared the kid away
it's still running until this day
Noone cared for the man after that
He's still stuck there like a twat

Lost at Sea

Lost at Sea

Far and wide
He tried to hide

He loved his dog
but was stuck in a bog

The ice cream did not
and he lost a lot

Nobody laughed
almost daft

He took his crow
and went in tow

Flexed his pec
entered the deck

Sailed away
Felt his way

Lost at sea
with no idea

Guided by stars
still behind bars

Went aground
pound for pound

They found him there
gave him care

It was too late
he was gone to hate

Rampage abound
there was no sound

None was left
He was fully bereft

Times were new
Down was his brew

Glimmer and Fate

Glimmer and Fate

When lights are low
and the streets are dough
The song is heard from every bird

I left the herd
and broke the bird
Never thought I would be the one to be third

Find a glimmer
Find a fate
Nothing that matters is ever too late

Bark at the moon
Howl at the scene

Be a monster
but use your strength on the mean

The Product

The Product

I barked at the moon
and the car finally passed
I never felt so harassed

I puked in my shoe
it was all I could do
no time to find a proper lo

Chased after for revenge
but lost my way pretty soon
Had to swerve to save a Maine coon

Shouting and cursing at the cat
It looked me with disgust where I sat
Assessing to eat me and become rather fat

I turned back in fear
It looked like a bear
Felt like a chump
But I didn't care

Soon the smell of my shoe
And all of that goo
Overwhelmed me like a flood
Stopped at a park in the hood

Tried to clean it out
when I heard a scary shout
A group of thugs
Came over and gave me hugs

"What's that stink?"
My heart started to sink
I showed them my shoe
it now looked like glue

"That's hallucinative sh*t,
you give me a hit!"
I looked at him confused
but didn't want to get abused

Gave him a bite
he got high as a kite
The others went along
the product was really strong

A second later they slept
the money they had I kept
Went out of my way
to keep them as they lay

Got into my ride
I had saved my hide
only one shoe on
still felt like I won

Went back into town
and jumped onto my bed of down
I was sick of it all
Still I had kind of a ball

I was done with this day
sleep could please take me away
Got lost in another dream
It was the same scheme

I barked at the moon

True Cow

True Cow

I used to be true
But the cow said moo

Scared me stiff
Started wondering if

True was too nice
Better to have a vice

Went underground
Searched for my sound

Entered a gang
Cut myself a bang

Shoplifted and stole
Only ate bananas from Dole

Got promoted to chief
Turned a new leaf

Abused everyone
With good words and fun

It changed the world
But noone of it heard

Wrote a book
Noone gave it a look

Happy still am I
Dont really know why

Forgive me I lie
I almost always cry

After a while
We bought an isle

Moved the business there
Maybe it was the fresher air

Booming and hot
A volcano entered the plot

Crime was not easily done
When mostly you had to run

Lava is no joke
We were almost broke

Invested in stock
And started to rock

Charts pointed up
We filled our cup

Gave some to the poor
Never knowing what for

Filled purses of the lazy
We must have been crazy

Bought another isle
They were separated by a mile

The bridge was costly as hell
I still on it dwell

It was finished for a min
Then the mountain started to grin

The flow went so fast
We did not last

Our bridge went with us
Down the drain with a cus

Why do I this tell?
I want my book to sell

Ratings' been great
Since we met our fate

Im off on a date
Girls are beautiful of late

Maybe I shouldve been true
I hope there is someone I can sue

I regret the result
Of our fun healthy cult

Though I'm happy I tried
Not solely prioritizing my hide

Freeway Run

Storytavern Freeway

When love came to town there was nothing to do.
Randomly perplexed she left the room and fell down the stairs.
She was used to the pain and instantly popped up on her feet with acrobatic grace.

Turning to the coffee pot she filled it and put it on the stove.
Went out got the paper and read through the news.
Nothing of interest, except an article about a man who was late.
She knew it was him from the words quoted therein.

The coffee went down with terrible haste.
The paper it flew as she ran out the door.
Onto the street screaming as if she was on fire.
Neighbours they cheered and threw flowers at her feet.
They had never seen such a woman, so beautiful and sweet.

Shop owners closed their shops to watch the commotion.
They spoke with each other and compared their emotion.
A bet was made and all lost their hair,
for this time they had nothing to which they could compare.

Dashing down the freeway she passed a lorry of sorts.
It honked at her happy and moved out of the way.
Everyone was with her on this day.

Braking like mad she avoided the sea and popped into Starbucks for some tea.
A child came up running and ask for an autograph.
She gave it with a smile, but stole the pen.
The kid started crying and called for his dad.
He wasn't aware she had gone in a flash,
his dad stood there wondering what had happened to his lad.

Tilting round the corner to the parliament and park
she hopped over a police car in a tidy wide arc.
The police called the feds who were investigating a bun,
drinking some java and staring at the sun.
Everyone was called and the chase was on,
through streets of mercy and subway below.
She raced up the next station and broke the barrier of sound.
Kissed a Bugatti and hugged a barking hound.

When finally she came upon the meadow and field,
she sat down just next to him and dropped her shield.

"I brought some friends, I hope you don't mind?
They will be here shortly, I'm just trying to be kind."

"My lady, with you times are merry and I love what you do.
But this time its not funny, why did you bring the whole zoo?"

"Its a present to show how much you mean to me,
should I just have brought a book or a tree?
Wait til they come and my logic you will see."

The feds and the lot came over in trot,
sat down and joined in and what not.
Singing and dancing all had a blast,
It was like the times, long lost in the past.

Later in the evening when the feast had stilled down, he hugged her closely and admitted defeat.
"You are the one to make me fill out a spreadsheet."

And so it was when the world of the past
came into the present and the future twirled at last.

Sun and blue sky

Almost as if by chance he went over to the desk
sat down
and let his thoughts still and quieten

He looked out the windows to the sun and the blue sky.
The day had been eventful, everything had changed.
He wasn't in the same mood anymore,
he was focused in a way only events like these caused.

He was tired of it all,
someone had better come get him and take him away.
The order was sent in his mind, he knew no one would come.

Almost without realising it he stood up
walked over to the water dispenser and drank a cup
He paused again contemplating

Feeling the weight on him
he turned inwards to find the rock
The one he could always depend on
It never faltered

It isolated him from everything
made him feel better
or at least that was what he thought it did
it was a strange feeling of comfort

Funny how that is, he thought.
He realised what he wanted to do
He moved through the room with purpose
over to the door and opened it.

He felt like he was floating on air
walking on soft cotton, supporting his steps.
Through the corridor he followed it to the right
his body soothed and tingled at the same time

It was long since he felt this good and bad at the same time
But it was also a releasing feeling
this had been a long time coming
Turning with the corridor he entered the landscape
At the end of it he knocked on a door

Entering he found a aged man sitting there,
typing, looking up when he entered.
Moving over to the desk he pulled out his card and his keys
He handed them over with certainty
The old man looked puzzled then realisation dawned on him.

"What, John, why"? the aged man stumbled on his words.
"I'm done playing other peoples games." he said with a voice
that had been waiting a long time.
"There are things that are ok and things that are not. I've come to the end, this is where I get off."

He left without another word, he needed nothing from this place.
Out of the building, he drove his car and picked up early.
At the beach he watched her run happily round and round
Through the sand and out of the water.

He began to cry and shake, but he felt whole again.
She went over and hugged him gently with small but strong arms.
"We'll be ok now" he said hugging her close.
He released the rock and smiled at her.
"Lets get some ice cream, why don't we."
"Yay!" she cheered.

Rain and Drukers

There wasn't much to do about the rain falling
It wasn't the Reds task to fix it and neither were they intending to try.

The order they had been given was faulty and they knew it,
relaxing and feasting was what they intended to do.
One honey beer at a time, they had a great time in the aged old inn built from logs.
On the stage, built from rocks carried into the inn at an earlier time, the drunkest of them began a tune.
It was mesmerising to say the least. Awestruck, the lot of the others started to sway to the music as if in trance and cheer during solos from the flute. The flute music had entered into the mix by another entering the stage from the right. It wasn't noticed until the tunes started coming out.
The melody they all remembered from their berry picking contest last fall.
It had become a commonly used tune while they worked the fields and mines.

In through the door rushed a Bigfoot. soaked and dripping.
That's what the Reds called the tall folk, them being about three feet taller than any Red.

"Are you insane? You are supposed to stop the rain! The fields are flooding and the ants are surfing the leaves without hindrance." the Bigfoot shouted in desperation.

The Reds looked up and in a stupendous drunkenness the all hushed at him with a long "Sssshh!". Then they all turned back to the singer on stage and began to sing along.

"The fields go on and on. We chop and saw all day long. Down to the creek where we relax and sing our song! Along abong Rong!" they all cheered with laughter and joy.

"Outside! NOW!" the furious Bigfoot called out.

The room was all scrambles and they were all three hundred and forty three of them outside in a blink.

"Aye!" they slurred together in harmony with one leg raised, bent at the knee. The other five legs they stood on.

The Bigfoot came outside and smiled at them.
"Good, now lets stop this rain before its too late."

He marched them down to the creek and sat them all down by their own posts by the creeks edge.

"One... twoo.... TH....REE! Sip like your mess isn't yours, Drukers!"

They all shook their small shoulders and began sipping the cool water from the creek.
At first they weren't all that thirsty, since they were all drunk on honey. But after a while they got more and more thirsty. They sipped so fast the Bigfoot had to stop them a lot sooner than usual.

"Stop my beloved red Drukers! We are done. Any more and we will have summer until spring next year," he laughed.

Exhausted the reds  looked up from the creek to see that the sand dunes had begun appearing all around them in patches. The air was dry and hard to breathe in big gulps. They relaxed and lay on their backs with full bellies.

The big foot began to sing an after rain song. They all knew it and one by one with some effort joined in.

"Alas this day, the rain came this way
It ran around this middle ground
I may just find a thing to say
if it were not to be my mound this day"

They all shouted out the chorus:

"Alas Alas my will should run
along the creek my spirit flows."

They all smiled happily while the sun shone in the sky and the birds once more chattered their calls to one another.

"That's it Drukers! Back to what you were doing and a good job done by all!" the Bigfoot thundered with pride. "Until next rainfall!" he called as he left down the winding path to the Bigfoot lands.

The Reds looked silently at each other for a while.
One of them farted and they all started laughing.

"Back to the cabin Inn, Reds!" the windbreaker cheered and they flowed over creek and field to the inn where the honey poured free and the songs were waiting.

More

Little he was, the smallest of small
No one ever heard his call

He felt so alone
Always in his zone

Eternal was his search on and on
He would never stop until it was done

For even if the result was bad
The journey was all that he had

Finally he met a girl upon high
She was so fine he gave a sigh

"Hello" he said with a cry
Sadly she just walked on by

He waved after, used to the pain
Picking up pieces in the rain

Time slowly ticked its way
He left the situation where it lay

Started a new routine
Never thought about where he'd been

He worked and toiled
Creativity from him boiled

Famous he became
But he was no longer the same

Girls around him flocked
But all of them he mocked

"Leave me be
I want to be free"

He cried at night
Keeping out of sight

Work became insane
He had to use a cane

Health he had none
His body was done

At last he was lost
The fame had a cost

Air

There once was a man who talked about the air
how it smelled and felt blowing through his hair

He always fought windmills because they stole his wind
but usually he lost, they were pretty thick-skinned

Then one fine morning when he was battling at his peak
a bird from out of nowhere came down and pecked him with its beak

He waved and fought the creature off
it laughed and flew away with a scoff

The man got mad when he saw the bird flap
"Bothersome crow, I'll put you over my lap"

With that he went after, his face all red
"That's my air in which your wings you spread"

Running and panting, pursuit through the woods
angrily trying to protect his goods

Branches they scratched him from top to toe
the bird just flew further to his woe

Finally he came upon a gaping chasm
he would've stopped but he had a spasm

No air in his lungs had made the work pretty hard
and his muscle function had become rather marred

He flew over the cliff without any brake
in a state of panic, flight he tried to fake

The air it served him as one would expect
The bird flew up beside him and gave him respect

It knew it wasn't easy flapping without wings
but bravery was built just on such things

The bird called upon his mates for an assist
they carried the man though he tried to resist

Long was the trip up over trees very tall
slowly he began to appreciate them all

Gently they dropped him down on his lawn
all the while his intellect entered a new dawn

Lucky he was that some others used air
and him and his bravery to safety could bear

He sat there smiling waving them good bye
without knowing the reason he began to cry

Many years had gone since his battle began
what if he had seen this before he ran?

Mike and Me

At the time I got back home they were all there; the bully, the hustler and the brake. They were all still confused. The bully...
